Kayak maintenance and repair

With warmer weather it is time to start getting your kayak into shape for the summer season and if you live in east central Florida we can help you get your kayak into tip top shape.

A1A Beach Rentals is kayak dealer and we sell new and used kayaks.  We also repair kayaks and provide tools and accessories for custom installations such as hatches, seats, bungee straps, scupper holes, dry storage, rod holders and more.  We can also repair dings, cracks and other damage.

If you need help with solutions for transporting your kayak, we can help there too.

Spring Break 2013

Spring break is here and we couldn't be more excited.  Please give A1A Beach Rentals in Cocoa Beach a call for all your beach excursion and bike rental needs, including kayak trips, paddleboard trips, lessons, and guided outings.

If your in Orlando, you are only 1 hour away from the beach!  Stop by our shop and pick up all you need including beach chairs, resort style umbrellas, affordable surfboard rentals, beach games and more.  We are right on the way.  You have to drive right in front of our shop to get to the beach anyway, so you might as well stop in.

Cocoa Beach Kayak Manatee Watch Update

Of the many things we look forward to in fall, it is hard to beat the annual gatherings of manatees that congregate in warm waters once the water temps fall below 70 degrees.  Ok, so the mosquitoes are gone too, who wouldn't appreciate that.  But, this is the time of year when we can guide kayak guests to protected waters and interact with dozens of manatees in one trip.  With so few manatees in the wild it is extremely difficult to find and view manatees during the summer season.

Flats fishing is hot right now

Our kayak fishing guides and myself have been having tremendous success since Hurricane Sandy blew by last week.  The fish have been on a binge eating everything in sight, and many of our fishermen are reporting that redfish are darting after soft jerk baits and other mullet imitations from as far as 20 feet away.  Redfish from 20" to 40" are being caught as are seatrout from 14" to 25+".  And the catch numbers are fantastic.  Keep in mind all of our fishing is either by kayak, paddleboard, or wading, and our clients are catching an average of about 5 redfish and 2-3 trout in a 4hr period.

Where to eat in Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral

If you're visiting Cocoa Beach or live in the area, there are some must-eat places you should know about.Startingon the north end, actually in Port Canaveral, about a 5 minute drive from the central part of Cocoa Beach. Here, you will enjoy seafood and nightlife at any of the resaurants in the Cove. Grills, Fish Lips, and Milliken's Reef are all good choices. Milliken's reef may be perceived as higher end, but the food is worth it. Fish Lips and Grills have great food at good prices, and are very casual in nature.

Private Backwater Outings Available

Our local schools are starting this week, but that's no excuse for rest.  We are busy continuing to build our Port Canaveral cruise and shore excursion traffic.  We are also finishing this summer with some new stand up paddle board outings for the Girls Night Out Group of Brevard.  They found us on meetup.com and we can see this taking off for them and other outdoor/activity groups on meetup.com.  They have over 400 members and it shouldn't be a problem at all to schedule regular paddleboard trips, as well as kayak outings, surf lessons, bike tours, and more.

Stand Up Paddleboarding

A1A Beach Rentals Paddleboarding is taking off!

Since the development of our paddle board group with meetup.com, our paddleboard activity has exploded.  Interested paddleboarders, either experienced or beginner are encouraged to go to meetup.com and sign up for our meetup group named, Cocoa Beach Paddleboard Group.  The benefits of signing up include being noticed of scheduled paddleboard outings emailed direct to you, viewing of pictures and feedback from group participants on each group excursion, and socializing among the group, which is great for generating interest, and also making your voice heard on things like specific paddleboarding activities.

Port Canaveral Shore Excursions Continued

Leaving the beach is an option for those with more than 6 hours of shore leave. We frequently encounter customers with up to 8 hours or more of shore leave, and this is enough time to experience some of the greatest attractions in the world, as well as many more inland adventures. This post will cover some attractions we think provide the best value and experience with the time available.
Kennedy Space Center - Nearly every cruise offers shore excursions for KSC, but it can be done on your own. Travel time from the ship to the KSC Visitor's Center is about 20-25 minutes.

Port Canaveral Shore Excursions

We are frequently asked about "what to do" while on shore leave in Port Canaveral.  While the cruise ships do a great job at providing several planned shore excursions there are always those cruise passengers that want to do their own thing.

This post features several do-it-yourself activities for Port Canaveral shore excursion adventurers going it alone.

First, the cruise ship terminals aren't really located in a spot that is conducive for simply walking off the ship and starting your adventure.

Surf Expo 2012

We visited Surf Expo 2012 in Orlando this week and can't wait to add some new items to our line up.  We will be adding more hybrid paddleboards that can serve double duty as kayaks, which will make everyone's time on the water more fun.  We'll also be adding some new longboards, and we'll be updating our beach equipment rental gear with new umbrellas, beach chairs and lounges too.  We can't wait for the spring warm up.  2012 is sure to be our best year yet.  Don't miss out.  Give us a call anytime for your beach, surf, and watersports rental.  And thanks for visiting.
